Arkansas State University (also known as A-State) is a public research university and is the flagship campus of the Arkansas State University System, the state's second largest college system and second largest university by enrollment. It is located atop 1,376 acres (5.6 km2) on Crowley's Ridge at Jonesboro, Arkansas, United States. The university marked its centennial year in 2009. Arkansas State has Sun Belt rivalries with all West Division schools (Little Rock, Louisiana, Louisiana-Monroe, Texas State, and UT Arlington). Their primary Sun Belt rivals are Little Rock and Louisiana-Monroe.
Georgia Southern University (GS) is a public research university in the U.S. state of Georgia. Its flagship campus is located in Statesboro, and other units include the Armstrong Campus in Savannah and the Liberty Campus in Hinesville. Founded in 1906 as a land grant college, Georgia Southern is part of the University System of Georgia and is the largest center of higher education in the southern half of Georgia. The institution offers over 140 different academic majors in a comprehensive array of baccalaureate, masters, and doctoral programs. The university has an overall enrollment of more than 27,000 students from all 50 states and approximately 85 nations. Georgia Southern is classified as a Doctoral and Research Institution by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, plus a comprehensive university by the University System of Georgia.On the Statesboro Campus is the Center for Wildlife Education and the Lamar Q Ball, Jr. Raptor Center, an educational and research facility that is home to Georgia Southern's bald eagle mascot as well as 85 other birds, 67 reptiles, 70 amphibians, and eight mammals. The university also manages the Effingham Wetlands, some 1,400 acres donated by the Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land (STPAL) with the express purpose of creating a vibrant living laboratory.
The George-Anne, the university's flagship publication, is published twice a week during academic semesters. There are also magazines published by students, such as The Reflector, a student interest news magazine of Georgia Southern University and, until 2016, The Miscellany, a literary arts magazine composed of submissions from the student body and university community.
Georgia Southern University's intercollegiate sports teams, known as the "Eagles", compete in the Sun Belt Conference.
